To the offering of Christ are united not only the members still here on earth,
but also those already in the glory of heaven. In communion with and
commemorating the Blessed Virgin Mary and all the saints, the Church offers the
Eucharistic sacrifice. In the Eucharist the Church is as it were at the foot of
the cross with Mary, united with the offering and intercession of Christ.

Nor did demons crucify him; it
is you who have crucified him and crucify him still, when you delight in your
vices and sins.392

The Church’s social teaching comprises a body of doctrine, which is articulated
as the Church interprets events in the course of history, with the assistance
of the Holy Spirit, in the light of the whole of what has been revealed by
Jesus Christ.201 This teaching can be more easily accepted by men of
good will, the more the faithful let themselves be guided by it.

Many religions invoke God as “Father”. the deity is often considered
the “father of gods and of men”. In Israel, God is called
“Father” inasmuch as he is Creator of the world.59 Even more,
God is Father because of the covenant and the gift of the law to Israel,
“his first-born son”.60 God is also called the Father of the
king of Israel. Most especially he is “the Father of the poor”, of
the orphaned and the widowed, who are under his loving protection.61

The Old Law is a preparation for the Gospel. “The Law is a pedagogy and a
prophecy of things to come.”17 It prophesies and presages the work
of liberation from sin which will be fulfilled in Christ: it provides the New
Testament with images, “types,” and symbols for expressing the life
according to the Spirit. Finally, the Law is completed by the teaching of the
sapiential books and the prophets which set its course toward the New Covenant
and the Kingdom of heaven.
