When Jesus prays he is already teaching us how to pray. His prayer to his
Father is the theological path (the path of faith, hope, and charity) of our
prayer to God. But the Gospel also gives us Jesus’ explicit teaching on prayer.
Like a wise teacher he takes hold of us where we are and leads us progressively
toward the Father. Addressing the crowds following him, Jesus builds on what
they already know of prayer from the Old Covenant and opens to them the newness
of the coming Kingdom. Then he reveals this newness to them in parables.
Finally, he will speak openly of the Father and the Holy Spirit to his
disciples who will be the teachers of prayer in his Church.

Techniques
that entail the dissociation of husband and wife, by the intrusion of a person
other than the couple (donation of sperm or ovum, surrogate uterus), are gravely
immoral. These techniques (heterologous artificial insemination and
fertilization) infringe the child’s right to be born of a father and mother
known to him and bound to each other by marriage. They betray the spouses’
“right to become a father and a mother only through each
other.”166

The memorial of the Lord’s Passion and Resurrection.
The Holy Sacrifice, because it makes present the one sacrifice of Christ the
Savior and includes the Church’s offering. the terms holy sacrifice of the
Mass, “sacrifice of praise,” spiritual sacrifice, pure and holy
sacrifice are also used,148 since it completes and surpasses all the
sacrifices of the Old Covenant.
The Holy and Divine Liturgy, because the Church’s whole liturgy finds its
center and most intense expression in the celebration of this sacrament; in the
same sense we also call its celebration the Sacred Mysteries. We speak of the
Most Blessed Sacrament because it is the Sacrament of sacraments. the
Eucharistic species reserved in the tabernacle are designated by this same
name.

hands of the sick person (in the Roman Rite) or of other parts of the body (in

“Recapitulated in Christ,” these are the ones who take part in the
service of the praise of God and the fulfillment of his plan: the heavenly
powers, all creation (the four living beings), the servants of the Old and New
Covenants (the twenty-four elders), the new People of God (the one hundred and
forty-four thousand),4 especially the martyrs “slain for the word
of God,” and the all-holy Mother of God (the Woman), the Bride of the
Lamb,5 and finally “a great multitude which no one could number,
from every nation, from all tribes, and peoples and tongues.”6

Through the prophets, God forms his people in the hope of salvation, in the
expectation of a new and everlasting Covenant intended for all, to be written
on their hearts.22 The prophets proclaim a radical redemption of the
People of God, purification from all their infidelities, a salvation which will
include all the nations.23 Above all, the poor and humble of the Lord
will bear this hope. Such holy women as Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel, Miriam,
Deborah, Hannah, Judith and Esther kept alive the hope of Israel’s salvation.
