God is perfect in every sense. It is impossible to find in him something that is not infinitely good. He is wise, prudent, faithful, good, liberal, beautiful, gentle, not despising anything that he created, making cases of us, governing us with gentleness, and even with respect, patient, free from all movements deregulated by passions; He is everything that we love in creatures; Everything is brought together in him, and forever, and in an infinitely more perfect way. It has none of the faults that shock us, which put us off, which disgust us with created objects. How is it then that we not love Him alone? (…) God is not only perfect, but still he is the source of all perfection. It is only in Him from which we can obtain this; by studying it, considering it: “We will be like him, because we will see Him as He is” (1 Jn 3,2). It will be in heaven, and, in this life, we will approach as much this likeness as we will consider Him more. (…) Jesus, as much as I can, I want to accord myself to your examples and to your maxims, which alone can lead me to you and out of ignorance, and the errors where my passions could rush to me.
