Monday, December 18 : Saint Charles de Foucauld
“An angel appeared to Joseph during his sleep.” (Mt 2,19) Hope! let’s hope! … You will not leave us in darkness when we need light … We can be in obscurity, we can be there for a long time, and sometimes painfully, but it is because darkness will be useful to our souls and that, in this darkness, You will watch over us and lead us by the hand, without us feeling it, and when our souls are in need of light, you will always give it … You could, my God, lead Saint Joseph by many ways other than apparitions: it seems that it is to make, from the first pages of the Gospel, obvious to our eyes this truth of hope that we must have in your grace (which you give us to lead us to glory), that you show us, from the beginning of the New Testament , these angels, these stars rising to your call, to guide men … it’s like a flash that lights up for a moment the night of the earth and makes us see, through our surprised eyes, your way of driving souls. It is a curtain that rises for a moment and lets us see something of your eternal and infinitely beneficial Providence.
