Saturday, August 24 : Saint Ambrose
Collects the water of Christ, the one who praises the Lord. Gather the water from various sources, the water that the clouds of the prophets make. Whoever collects in himself mountain water, or who draws that of the fountains, also begins to spread it like a cloud. Filled with this water your heart and your mind so that your land is moving, irrigated by its own sources. Now it is by an intelligent reading that the mind is filled; And the one that is full can irrigate others. It is in this sense that the writing says: “When the clouds are swollen with rain, they pour on the earth” (QO 11,3). May your abundant speech therefore flow with transparency and clarity. You will thus pay your people to the ears of your people full of sweetness. Seduced by the grace of your words, he will gladly follow you where you drive it. May your words be full of wisdom. Solomon says it: The weapon of the Spirit is the sage’s mouth (cf. Pr 14,3); And elsewhere: that your lips are attached to the meaning (cf. Pr 15,7), that is to say: that your presentation is clear, that intelligence is illuminated and that your speech is strong.
