At every street corner minor wars break out, just as at the crossroads of the world there are always major wars going on. At every turning point in our lives we may either make peace or make war – and we find ourselves perilously well designed for making war. This is why only the children of God are the only genuine peacemakers. For them the earth is the house that belongs to their Father in heaven. Everything on the earth belongs to Him, even the soil itself. Yes, the earth is in fact the house of the Father. No part of it do they disdain – no continent, no island, no nation, no back yard. They make it their buisness to create in the world a family spirit. The eyes of the peaceful mean well and their fellow travelers warm up to them as by the fireplace. They never find any reason to fight, because they know themselves accountable only of peace, and peace does not defend itself by battles. They know that the division of a single atom can trigger cosmic wars. They also know that there is a chain between humans and that when a human cell is torn by anger, resentment, or bitterness, that warfare can spread to the end of the universe. But because they believe in the dissemination of love, they know that there where a bit of peace is established there a contagion of peace is made strong enough to invade the whole earth. So they go towards a twofold joy: that of an advent of peace all around them; and that of listening to an ineffable voice that says “father” in the depths of their hearts.
