Wednesday, August 31 : Saint [Padre] Pio de Pietrelcina
Humility is truth and the truth is that I am but nothing. Consequently, everything good in me comes from God. Now it often happens that we waste whatever good God has placed in us. When I see people asking me for something it can happen that I don’t think about what I could give them but about what I am unable to give, and so a good many souls remain thirsty because I did not know how to pass God’s gift on to them. The thought that the Lord comes to us every day and gives us everything ought to make us humble. But the opposite happens. For the devil makes fits of pride rise up within us. This is by no means to our credit and so we ought to strive against our pride. When we can do no more, let us stop for a moment, make an act of humility and then God, who loves the humble heart, will come to meet us.
