Friday, July 10 : Saint Catherine of Siena
Most holy and sweet father, your poor unworthy daughter Catherine in Christ sweet Jesus, commends herself to you in His precious Blood: with the desire to see your heart firm and unshakeable in true and perfect patience, considering that a weak, mobile and patient heart will never be able to accomplish the great works of God. (…) The heavier your burden, the stronger, more courageous and more fearless your heart should be about things that may happen to you. You know well, most holy Father, that by taking the Church as your wife, you have committed yourself to suffering for her the contrary winds, the sorrows, the tribulations which will attack you on her occasion. Well! go then, as a courageous man, to face these storms, with strength, patience and perseverance; may sorrow never make you look back in surprise and fear; but persevere and rejoice in the midst of perils and battles, so that your heart may rejoice as you see the work of God being done in the midst of the obstacles that have arisen and will arise. It is always like this; always the persecution of the Church, or the tribulations of the virtuous soul, end in peace, which true patience and perseverance deserve, for which the crown of glory is reserved. This is the remedy, and this is why I told you, most holy Father, that I wanted to see you with a firm and unshakeable heart, protected by true and holy patience.
