“You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart, with your whole soul and with your whole mind.” This is the commandment of the great God, and he cannot command the impossible. Love is a fruit in season at all times and within reach of every hand. Anyone may gather it and no limit is set. Everyone can reach this love through meditation, spirit of prayer and sacrifice, by an intense inner life… If there are no limits it is because God is love (1Jn 4,8) and love is God. What binds us to God is truly a relationship of love. And since God’s love is infinite, to participate in it is to love and to give until it costs. That is why it is not so much a question of what we do as of the love we put into it, the love we put into what we give. That, too, is why people who know neither how to give nor receive love are the poorest of the poor no matter how great their wealth.
