To the extent that our world wishes to be divided from God, in which people understand themselves to be beyond God, to manage their lives without God, God becomes a novelty for them and the God of the Gospel becomes news once more. The Christian confronted with dechristianization often fights against the facts, the new state of affairs, in order that the faith should endure where he is. He seems like someone of the past. To the contrary, confronted with atheism the believing Christian, because he is believing, poses by his life a hypothesis for God where the hypothesis for God no longer exists. His faith in God is a still newer phenomenon for this new world. For his brethren the Christian is someone who loves the things of this world at their value and in their reality, but he is also someone who prefers the God in whom he believes to all these things. His preference leads him to certain choices. Thus one sees him choosing the invisible God. These choices concern what goes beyond the world, a completely new question for the world. When people ignore the fact that God is their good, it is not for us to align ourselves on their ignorance, their poverty. We must not just believe but should understand that the living God of the gospel can not only be news for them but good news.
