Monday, March 2 : Saint John-Mary Vianney
My brothers, how can we dare to judge and condemn someone, even if we have seen them commit a sin? He who was a sinner yesterday can be a penitent saint today. When we see much evil in our neighbor, let us at least say: “Alas, if the good Lord had not granted me more graces than him, I would perhaps have gone even further. » Yes, my brothers, rash judgment necessarily brings with it ruin and the loss of Christian charity. (…) Our Lord tells us: “Judge not and you will not be judged. My Father will treat you the same way you treat others; you will be measured with the same measure that you used to measure others. » (cf. Mt 7:1-2) Besides, my brothers, who among us would be happy if someone misjudged what he does or says? No one. Does not our Lord say: “Do not do to others what you would not want others to do to you. » (cf. Mt 7:12) Alas! My brothers, how many sins we commit in this way! Alas! that there are some who do not know them, and who, therefore, have never accused themselves of them! My God, how many people are damned for lack of being educated or thinking carefully about their way of living!
