Saturday, December 25 : Saint Romanos Melodios
Hear, O shepherds, the sound of trumpets; (…) The Word is born, God is manifested to the world! And you, the daughters of kings, enter into the joy of the Mother of God (cf. Ps 44[45]:10). O peoples, let us say together: “Blessed are you, our newborn God, glory to you!” The Virgin, who knew not man (Lk 1:34), has brought joy into the world, the ancient sadness has ended. The Uncreated one is born, he whom the world cannot contain comes into the world. Today, joy is revealed to men ; today, error is thrown into the abyss. Let us cry, O peoples: “Blessed are you, our newborn God, glory to you!” Shepherds, sing to the Lord who is born at Bethlehem (…), he who redeems the world. Now Eve’s curse is broken thanks to him who is born of the Virgin. (…) “Clap your hands with shouts of joy” (Ps 46[47]:2); form a choir with the angels. The Lord is born of the Virgin Mary to “raise up those who are fallen and lift those who are cast down” (Ps 144:14), those whp cry out in faith: “Blessed are you, our newborn God, glory to you!” The author of the Law has been born under the Law (Gal 4:4), the Son outside time is born of the Virgin, the Creator of the universe is laid in the crib. He whom the Father conceived eternally, without mother in heaven, is born of the Virgin, without father on earth. O peoples, let us say: “Blessed are you, our newborn God, glory to you!” In truth, joy has been born in the stable. Today the angelic choirs are rejoicing; all the nations celebrate the immaculate Virgin; our ancestor, Adam, is dancing for joy for today the Savior has been born. O peoples, let us say: “Blessed are you, our newborn God, glory to you!”
