Saturday, July 15 : Saint Catherine of Siena

What is the best way to strengthen our weakness? It’s love…We have only to place our affections, desires, our love in Him who is stronger than us. That is to say God, the source of our strength. It’s God who loved us before we loved him. As soon as the soul tasted this gentle love, stronger than the strength, she can not desire anything else but Him. Without Him she wants nothing. She is strong because she unites herself to the one thing solid and imovable. She remains fixed on Him whatever may happen, she follows the mouvements and desires of Him who she loves. She is one heart and one will with Him, knowing that he lived pain and humiliation. All His servants rejoice to follow this way, they flee and detest all that is contrary. They have become one with Him, loving that which He loves. They receive such a great strength from Him that nothing can trouble them. They see straight ahead in the great storms of life, without worrying, without fear, not because they have confidence in themselves, but because they see that He is strong? They say with St Paul, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!”
