Saturday, June 14 : Saint Nerses Chnorhali
Day after day, your order I hear it through my corporel hearing, Not to swear at all, Neither by the things of the earth, nor by heaven. As for me, plugging the ears of my soul, I do not let the word enter it; But I behave in an opposite way, And I disobeyed the commandment. (…) But you who gave speech as a tool Thought and language, ethereal breath, Open my mouth by your Spirit, Fill it with spiritual blessing, So that I speak of the divine law, Of the good news of the New Testament, Of the wisdom of theory And the mystery of practice. Keep from me the word that divides, Unredeemable blasphemy, And complaint with slander, Murmuring with detraction. The deception of neighbor, And treason of the treacherous, The oath of perjury, The lies that is characteristic of the Evil one; (…) Diabolic loquacity, And the junction of the presumptuous; And in general all the waves of words Which, once pronounced, are regretted. And give me the Word, oh you, incarnated Word, To always speak with your word, To give it as thanksgiving to my listener, For the edification of the demolished soul.
