Saturday, June 21 : St Hildegard of Bingen
[Sainte Hildegarde presents a vision where vice and virtue respond:] – Concern for the world: “What concern is better than that of the world?” If I went to my knees, it would not give me food or clothing … I will therefore get everything I can acquire by thinking, speaking and working, as long as I can live on earth. – Aspiration to the things of heaven: “God provides what is necessary … No product grows without his grace. You don’t seek God in your heart. Me, I am the life and the greening of all the good works and the necklace of all the virtues … I do not seek, I want, I want nothing other than what is holy, I am the zither of joy. I am from heaven in everything.” The concern of the world is a wandering spirit in insignificance and speaking everywhere with a lot of noise; The men who suffer from this vice suffer a great agitation of the body and the soul, but like it as in a great calm. Because what is agitation for others is resting them; And what is rest for others waves them. They are immersed in care and worries as if they were sitting in a bathtub. All their aims and all their desires tend to the property of this world and they only deal with temporary and passiing advantages. May the believer take his yolk and his oxen while thinking of God, let him follow the master’s precepts by taking care of the earth without neglecting heaven.
