Saturday, June 22 : Saint Alphonsus Maria de Liguori
Weigh this: Your God loves you more than you can love yourself; So what do you have to fear? “The Lord worried about me” (Cf. Ps 39,18), repeated David, and this thought comforted him. Say in your turn: “In your arms, Lord, I abandon myself; I admit no other concern than to love and please you: I am ready to do whatever you want. You have more than the desire to do me good, you will worry about it: it is therefore to you that I leave my salvation, since you are going to place all my hopes in you. “I will fall asleep and rest in peace, because you yourself, Lord, strengthened me in hope of your protection” (PS 4,9 VG) “. “Have for the Lord feelings worthy of his goodness” (SG 1,1 VG). By these words, the sage urges us to entrust ourselves to the mercy of God more than fear his justice. God, in fact, is immensely more inclined to bless than to punish, according to the word of Saint James: “Mercy rises above justice” (cf. James 2,13). Hence this recommendation of the apostle Saint Peter: “Unload on God of all your worries, because he himself takes care of you” (cf. 1 p 5,7). These are our anxieties about our interests, both temporal and eternal: we must give them up without reservation to the goodness of God, above all we must entrust ourselves to the extreme care he takes for our salvation.
