Sunday, August 10 : Saint Theodore the Studite
Hasten as time is running out (cf. 1 Co 7.29). Sow the virtues in your hearts, in order to collect the fruit of righteousness(cf. pH 1,11). That no one lets oneself be brought down, for fear of being described as by the author of the proverbs: “Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise.”(Pr 6,6). Let no one be misleading or unfair, by acting in one way and speaking in another, for fear of being pushed back, according to the words of the Holy Psalmist David: “The Lord will exterminate all deceptive lips, all proud language” (PS 11,4). Let no one be idle, lazy and dissolute in soul and body, lest it be inflicted as Paul says this blame: “As for the lazy may he not eat either” (2 Th 3,10). Let no one be proud, for fear of being targeted by these words of the divine Jacques: “The Lord resists the proud, but he gives grace to the humble” (JC 4,6; 1 p 5.5). Let’s walk well awake in the Lord, let’s fulfill his commandments, let us bring to what is the treasure (cf. MC 41-44) of our life the contribution which is in our power to make(…). May no one absolutely appear before the eyes of the living God with empty hands (cf. MC 12,41-44)! Because he accepts not only the offering of heavy tasks, but also that of the little ones (…), as he accepted the two coins of the widow; God, in fact, He measures intentions and it is on them that he judges the actions. Since therefore, my children, we have a good God full of mercy and who wishes more than us our salvation, if we walk on his right path we will find rest for our souls (cf. Mt 11,29; JR 6,16).
