Sunday, August 17 : Jean-Jacques Olier
Our Lord Jesus Christ lives on earth in souls and grows in them according to the operations of his grace, as he once developed in his childhood with his mother, and he continues in us his inner life when we belong only to him. What he started in himself, he continues it in his church, so that the divine life he communicates to her and which is so glorious to God his Father, will never have an end in eternity. He wants the whole earth to be full of fire, and he only sent Him back to devour the world (cf. LC 12,49). (…) There is nothing sweeter, nor which gives more rest and consolations to the soul, than being transported out of oneself by Jesus Christ and by his divine Spirit, which does not need the ardent chariot of Elijah (cf. 2 r 2,11); but which, by His power alone, raises us from the earth to heaven, and from the bottom of ourselves transports us to the breast of God. I will be unfaithful to Jesus if I did not push your soul incessantly to never rely on herself.
