Sunday, February 16 : Saint Charles de Foucauld

“Woe to you who are satisfied!” “(LC 6, 25) Let us not seek our satisfaction in the things of this world, neither in material goods, nor in spiritual goods, in no creature finally, in no way that is not God. The more we will be empty of everything that is not God, the more we will be able to be filled with God, and satisfied by him … Let us use things of this world only to the extent that it is necessary to fulfill our duties towards God, to the extent that he commands it, that in view of him alone, remaining absolutely empty of any attachment… Far from satisfying us, let’s empty ourselves materially (…), and let’s empty our hearts completely, radically; May our heart be radically empty, so that God fulfills it entirely. This does not mean that men do not have to love men, far from it, but we must not love them for us but for their sake, in view of God alone: they are good in our hearts, but not placed there by us, but placed by God; In a way we love them in the heart of God. We love God alone: alone all our hearts. We also love men, but because they are in him, because we find them in his heart, because they are something of him.
