Sunday, November 2 : Baldwin of Ford
The love of which God loved us delighted with his power the bonds in which death kept us prisoners. From now on, it can only hold those it is allowed to touch for a moment. Because “Christ is risen, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep” (1co 15, 20). He confirms to us in certainty that we will rise, by the mystery, the example and the testimony of his own resurrection as well as by the word of his promise. It is strong, death capable of removing the gift of life to us; It is strong, the love that can give us back a better life. Death is strong: its power can strip us of our body; Love is strong: he has been able to tear his loot from death and give it back. It is strong, death: no man can resist him; He is strong, love, so much so that he triumphs over death, dulls his sting, stops his ambition, and overthrows his victory. Death will indeed be flouted whenever we say to her: “Death, where is your victory? Death, where is your sting? »(1 Co 15.55). “Love is strong as death” (CT 8,6), for the death of death is the love of Christ, as this word suggests: “Death, I will be your death; Hell, I will be your loss ”(Hosea 13,14). The love of which we love Christ is also powerful as death, because it is a kind of death: the extinction of ancient life, the abolition of vices, the abandonment of the works of death. This love that we have for Christ is like an answer to the one he has for us; Although it is uneven, it is in his image. He loved us first, and, by the example of love he gave us, he became our model and our seal. It is up to us to let ourselves be imprinted in his image, to leave the terrestrial mask and to put on the celestial figure, it’s up to us to love Christ as he loved us.
