Thursday, August 22 : St Hildegard of Bingen
When the energies of the soul tear from the mind of man the carnal desires, the desire of God groans in Him. The soul then interlaces these groans- an inner prayer – as the bee builds its hive a ray of honey, so the inner palace of God is built in the soul. (…) The energies of the soul are of immense force, because man knows and feels God through them, whatever his dependence on the desires of the flesh. The creator of the earth has made the soul a real workshop, it is for man the instrument of all his works. God has created him in accordance with Himself. This soul, a work of God, who acts until the last day of the world, is for each man as a sacred, divine, invisible presence. After the last day of the world, when man has been completely transformed into the Spirit, he will have a perfect vision of the Holy Divinity, of all minds and all souls. The soul is a fruitful energy, it communicates to the whole person movement and life. As a man has a fabric garment, so the soul is involved in all the works it makes. She wears a blanket, good and bad. The good works, when she left this body, will shine in her like a clothing entirely decorated with the purest golden brightness, but the bad people will feel clothed in a drove of filth!
