Let us never worry about the future: at every moment of our life let us do what is most perfect, that is, let us do what God’s will imposes on us in the present moment; and this done, let us not worry more about the future than if we were to die the next hour… Let us not think about the future except to ask God that we do his will during all the moments of our existence, and that thus we glorify Him as much as we can… But as for the rest, let us not worry more about the future than if the life of this world was going to end for us: let us be all in the present moment alone. If the will of God directs us, as often happens, as the occupation of the present moment, to prepare ourselves, either materially (as by manual labor, rest, food, care of health, etc.) or spiritually (as by study, meditation, etc.) for the future, then at the right time let us occupy ourselves with this preparation, but let us occupy ourselves, not with a view to ourselves, to prepare ourselves for the future, but with a view to God to accomplish what he asks of us in the present moment. (…) It is the life of faith: thus we no longer live with a view to ourselves, but with a view to God alone: no longer by us, according to our will, but by God, according to the sole will of God, no longer counting on ourselves or on any creature, but by abandoning ourselves entirely to God and expecting everything from Him alone… God will give us at all times what we need to fulfill any mission that He is pleased to give us… (…) We only have to obey at all times, doing everything moment what He commands us in the present moment.
