Tuesday, September 30 : Saint Gertrude of Helfta
[A certain person] was perplexed and troubled because she felt she was prevented from praying by the various duties she had to perform. Then, when [Gertrude] prayed for her, she received this answer from the Lord: “I have not chosen her to serve me for one hour only, but rather that she should be with me all day long without a break; that is, that she should carry out all her work for my praise, with the same intention that she would have if she were praying. She could also add this devotion: to desire that all who profit physically from her labors should not only be refreshed in body but should make progress in my love and be confirmed in all that is good. And whenever she does this it will seem to me as if each of her works and labors were a dish which she is seasoning for me with some particularly tasty sauce!”
