Monday, October 25 : A Homily attributed to Eusebius of Alexandria
Obviously, the week is made up of seven days: God has given us six in which to work and one in which to pray, rest and free ourselves from our sins. So if we have committed any faults during these six days we can make amends for them on the Sunday and be reconciled with God. So make your way early to the church of God, draw near to our Lord to confess your sins to him, bring him your prayer and the repentance of a contrite heart. Remain during the whole of the holy and divine liturgy, complete your prayer, do not leave before the dismissal of the congregation. Gaze upon your Lord while he is divided and shared without being destroyed and, if your conscience is pure, draw near and receive communion in the body and blood of the Lord… This day has been given to you for prayer and rest. “This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it” (Ps 118[117],24). Give glory to him who was raised up on this day, and to the Father and Holy Spirit now and always, for ever and ever.
