Saturday, April 20 : St Hildegard of Bingen
The soul, from the beginning to the end of all action, must venerate with equal zeal the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit. At the beginning of her action, she welcomes wisdom, which she has as the maturation of holy fear and keeps in the midst of courage – strength of the heart. She keeps herself in celestial things by intelligence and counsel and surrounds herself In terrestrial things of science and piety: these must be welcomed with great respect, because they are her support. Let the soul therefore first to open to wisdom to and, at the end of its action, close with timidity and pudeur. The movement of the reasonable soul and the action of the body, according to its five senses, follow a single path, the body does no works that do not accord to what the soul sets in motion. The different senses do not separate from each other, they support each other with great firmness and light up the whole man, in order to lead him either up or down, following the choices of his soul. The Spirit of knowledge moves the soul to tears of repentance, while sins diminishes it. Constancy in righteousness brings her, in addition to good works, the heat of the higher desires. The other virtues come to the aid of firmness to communicate to each believer holiness – sanctifying grace -: the soul is penetrated by dew and the warmth of the Holy Spirit, self control and She leads him to serve God with her … So all the interior organs bring their energy to the human soul in order to serve it. So when the soul abandons sins to accomplish justice, it rises while following reason.
