Sunday, June 11 : Saint John-Mary Vianney
Who could ever have believed the love that Jesus has for us creatures, if it weren’t for the gift of His body and Blood to nourish our souls? What, a soul that feeds on it’s savior? And that as often as she likes? O abime of goodness and love of God for us. Saint Paul tells us that the Savior, on taking on human flesh, hid His divinity, humiliating himself even onto death. But in instituting this sacrament of the Eucharist, Christ veiled His humanity, and left only the heart of His mercy! Oh see to what God’s love for His creatures is capable of.. St John says that Jesus “loved His own to the end”, found the way to rise to heaven without leaving the earth. He took blood in His holy hands, blessed it, and transformed it into His body, taking the blood He transformed it to His precious blood, and giving it to His apostles allowed this gift to continue for all time. Through this miracle of love He remains with us, serves us the bread of angels, consoles us, and remains in our company. “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.” Jn 6:53 What great honor for a Christian to aspire to, than to nourish himself on the breead of angels.
