Why is there such a great purity in Mary? Because she had to house the Son of God in her womb. If she had not been purer than the angels, the Word could not have come in it with propriety. He would not have come to it with pleasure; There could not have been these precious gifts to which he fills her while he was designed in her. We receive in the Blessed Sacrament of the altar the same Jesus Christ that Mary carried nine months in her breast. What is our purity? What care do we take to prepare our soul? What garbage! We make mistakes the day before, day, in action itself. However, it comes! What goodness! We go to him! What a temerity! But does this God of goodness come with pleasure? Let’s examine what his feelings should be. Isn’t it put off by the sight of such a great corruption? And we are boldly going to him, without confusion, without contrition, without penance. I want to try to prepare my heart so that you enjoy it, that you find your delights there, O my God, not to oppose the immense graces that I would receive, if I had care to purify myself, if I knew what I lost. But, my God, that my ignorance little justifies my negligence! (…) I will strive to purify myself, in a state to take advantage of your visits and to enable you to come to me with pleasure. Come, my God, and you will find, with your holy grace, my heart more pure and transparent.
