Sunday, September 3 : Saint Catherine of Siena
Most holy and blessed Father in Christ, sweet Jesus, your unworthy and miserable little daughter Catherine encourages you in His precious blood, with the desire to see you without any servile fear; for he who is fearful loses all the strength of holy resolutions and good desires. (…) If you don’t do what you have to do, you are right to fear. You should come [to Rome], so come; come with sweetness, without fearing anything; and if someone around you wanted to prevent you, answer him boldly as Christ answered Saint Peter, who wanted, out of tenderness, to make him avoid the Passion. Christ turned to him, saying, “Depart from me, Satan; you are a scandal to me, because you seek the interest of man rather than that of God; you don’t want me to do my Father’s will.” Do the same, very sweet Father; imitate Him whose Vicar you are; strengthen yourselves, and say loudly in front of all: “Even if I should lose my life a thousand times, I want to accomplish the will of my Father.” Suppose there is a danger of life, shouldn’t it be sacrificed? since it is a certain means of acquiring the life of grace. Courage, and don’t be afraid, because you must not. Arm yourselves with the Most Holy Cross, which is the salvation and the life of Christians; let say what is meant, and be firm in your holy resolution. (…) Believe, and trust in Christ, sweet Jesus. (…) Remain in the holy and sweet love of God. Forgive me, forgive me; may the crucified Jesus be with you. Sweet Jesus, Jesus love.
