Thursday, October 12 : Saint Catherine of Siena
[Sainte Catherine heard God say to him:] My Providence has ordered everything with perfect wisdom. I gave a lot to man, because I am rich and I could do it; and I can always, because my wealth is infinite. It was done by me, and without me nothing can be. Does man want beauty, I am beauty; Does he want goodness, I am sovereign good ; I am wisdom, I am sweet, I’m just, I am merciful. I am generous and not stingy; I am the one who gives to whom him ask him; I open to the one who really knocks; I answer who calls me. I am not ungrateful, I recognize my servants and I like to reward those who spend themselves for me, for the honor and the glory of my name. I am joyful and I constantly keep the soul that has been clothed in my will. I am this great Providence, which never fails my servants who hope in it, either for their soul or for their body. (…) Do you not remember to have read, in the life of the fathers of the desert, the story of this holy man who had given up everything and himself, for the glory and the honor of my name. As he was sick, it was my leniency who watched over him, and sent him an angel to assist him and provide for his needs. The body was thus rescued in its misery, while the soul remained in an inexpressible joy, savoring the sweetness of this angelic trade. In such an occurrence, the Holy Spirit is for man a mother who nourishes him within my divine Charity. (…) My Holy Spirit, this servant that my power gave him, puts him himself, he nourishes him, he intoxicates him with sweetness, he fills it with invaluable wealth. (…) Oh! How happy this soul, which in a mortal body, tastes nothing less than the immortal good!
