Tuesday, April 2 : Anonymous 13th century monastic homily
“Marie”, I know you by your name; learn know me through faith. “Rabbouni,” she said, that is to say master, “teach me to seek you, teach me to touch you. “Do not touch me, replies Jesus, because I have not yet ascended to my Father” (Jn 20,16-17): you do not yet believe that I am equal, co-eternal and consubstantial to the Father. Believe it, and you will have touched me. Your view stops at man, so you don’t believe because you don’t believe that which you see. You don’t see God; believe and you will see. By your faith, you will touch me, like this woman who touched the fringe of my coat and was suddenly healed (cf. Mt 9,20-22). For what ? Because she touched me by her faith. Touch me with that hand, look for me with those eyes, run towards me with those legs. I’m not far from you; I am the God that is so close (cf. Dt 4,7), the word in your mouth and in your heart. And what could be closer to man than his heart? It was there, deep within, that all those who found me discovered me. Because what is outside only concerns sight. My works are real, and yet remain fragile and passing; While I, their creator, I live deep in pure hearts.
