Tuesday, May 24 : Saint Charles de Foucauld

When we see that the grace of God is not supporting us so much, that it is shrinking within us,, almost leaving us, let us take care not to become discouraged. This diminishment, this relaxation, are still that grace that is most useful to us for now. In God’s eyes it is the most useful means for drawing us out of our sleep, our sleepiness, for making us open our eyes and to see that we have abandoned the right way, we are marching to our loss. Far from becoming discouraged let us thank him profoundly for thus opening our eyes and set ourselves to make a serious examination of conscience, examining our infidelities and viewing the means for not committing them anymore. Let us watch over ourselves, making good resolutions and forcing ourselves to carry them out. Let us pray to God, asking him to retore his graces to us and promising him to be more faithful to them in the future than in the past and, full of humility, vigilance and good desires, let us begin a new life. If we do this, divine grace will be restored to us even more abundantly than in the past and this momentary distraction from God’s help will have become what it was meant to be in its intention: a source of even greater good and a more efficient means of being converted.
