Tuesday, November 14 : Saint Charles de Foucauld
You are useless servant: you must do with all your might, with all the ardor possible not only everything he commands, but all that he advises you so ever so slightly by movements of the Spirit. It is to see you do it out of love, by obedience, by imitation: this is how he obeyed the slightest indication of his father, this is the obedience that you owe him, This is how we obey when we love: such obedience is inseparable from love. But as much as it is certain that you must obey like this and work, with all your might, every moment of your life, to the works that God gives you to do: as much is certain that you are a useless servant: in what you do, God could do it by others, or without any other, in any case without you: you are a useless servant. Jesus only lived thirty three years old, you are thirty years old and your life, your health, your words would be useful to God? Work with all your might: it is a duty of imitation, obedience, love: this is how we work when we love. This work is inseparable from love, But your work, God does not need it, you remain a useless servant!
