Wednesday, December 6 : Didache
With regard to the Eucharist, this is the way you should celebrate it. First of all with regard to the cup: “We give thanks to thee, our Father, for the holy vine of thy Child David, which thou didst make known to us through Jesus thy Child. To thee be glory forever.” On the morsel of bread: “We thank thee, our Father, for the life and knowledge thou has made known to us through thy Child Jesus. To thee be glory forever. As this bread was scattered on the mountains and yet was gathered and made one, so too may thy Church be gathered together from the corners of the world into thy kingdom, for thine is the glory and power through Christ Jesus forever.” No one however should partake or drink of Eucharist except those that have been baptized in the name of the Lord… And after you are filled, make your thanksgiving thus: “Holy Father, we thank thee for thy holy name, which thou hast made to dwell within our hearts, and for the knowledge, faith, and immortality, which thou has revealed to us through thy Child Jesus. To thee be glory forever. Almighty Lord, thou didst create all things for the sake of thy name: thou gavest food and drink to men for their pleasure, that they might thank thee; but thou has blest us with spiritual food and drink and with eternal life through thy Child Jesus.”
