Wednesday, July 22 : Book of hours of Sinai
Lord, although You appeared before the tribunal when You were judged by Pilate, You did not abandon the throne upon which You sit with the Father; having risen from the dead, You liberated the world from the bondage of the Enemy in order to save our souls. Lord, when You were nailed to the cross and stretched out Your two hands, You abolished by Your power the dominion of death; and, having descended into the realm of the dead, You delivered the souls held therein; through Your resurrection, You raised up our souls as well and enlightened them. Lord, although You were laid in the tomb like a corpse, it was as a sleeping King that the soldiers guarded You—as if over a treasure of life that they had sealed; yet You rose again and bestowed incorruptibility upon our souls. Lord, in proclaiming Your Resurrection, Your angel struck fear into the guards, yet he addressed the women with these words: “Why do you seek the Living One among the dead? He has risen—for He is God—and He has given life to the universe!”
